Our ambition is to be the greenest tour operator in the Dales and for Settle District to be the greenest tourist area. We work hard to minimise the harmful effects and maximise the benefits our activities have on the environment. Encouraging visitors to arrive by train and explore by bike is our small contribution towards combating the problems and harm caused by motor traffic.

We were honoured to win the ATOC (Association of Train Operating Companies)National Cycle Rail Awards in 2006. Our unique bike/rail trips were seen as a valuable contribution to cycle/rail integration.

We are founder members of Settle's Going Green project which has the backing of our local MP David Curry, North Yorkshire County Council, Craven District Council and Settle District Chamber of Trade.

We

We are also a driving force behind the Craven Cycling Festival which had its Prologue in 2007 and, we hope, will become an Annual Event in Craven District. The main aims of the Festival are to introduce visitors to the benefits of cycling for health, wealth and our environment.

We have an ongoing environmental commitment and have already implemented many measures including:

  • Recycling cardboard, plastic packaging, cans and glass.
  • Using environmentally friendly cleaning products.
  • Supporting our local community by our involvement in the Chamber of Trade, Settle Area Renaissance Team and the Going Green project..
  • We have extensive information on walking tours, other cycling initiatives and local transport facilities for visitors.
  • Our web site has links to organisations such as Sustains, CTC etc.
  • Sourcing our packed lunches in Settle using local ingredients.
  • Using both sides of our chlorine free paper.
  • Using recycled ink cartridges in our printers.
  • Switching off all unnecessary electric appliances whenever possible.
  • Installing a dual flush toilet.
  • Using an instant hot water heater.
  • One cup of tea = one cup of water in the kettle.
  • We cycle everywhere we possibly can!

Going Green Project

The Going Green Project is a new initiative with the following aims:

  • Settle District to be widely recognised as the ‘Greenest’ Community within North Yorkshire and then to sustain that position into the foreseeable future.
  • our initiative to be seen as a national role model for the achievement of significant ‘green’ performance improvement through community-led action.
  • our initiative to make a significant contribution to the regeneration of the local economy
  • our initiative to make a significant contribution to the enhancement of community spirit and cohesion.

Supporting National Objectives

We support Sustains, the National Cycle Network creators in their ongoing work to open up the country to cyclists.

We support the Dales Millennium Trust, formed in 1997, to help support the environmental, social and economic well-being of the Yorkshire Dales.
